Ambulatory Care Unit

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Ambulatory Care Unit team, specializing in the preoperative preparation and postoperative discharge of surgical patients. This role is ideal for a nurse who thrives in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment and is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

You'll work with patients undergoing general surgery, orthopedics, cardiac cath lab, gastrointestinal, neurosurgery, ENT, and urology, providing care throughout the perioperative process, from preadmission testing and day-of-surgery prep to Phase II, inpatient transfer and discharge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans
  • Administer medications, collect specimens, and perform clinical treatments
  • Monitor and document patient condition, communicating changes to the care team
  • Assist patients with daily living activities including hygiene, nutrition, and mobility
  • Educate patients and families based on age, culture, and condition throughout the surgical experience
  • Coordinate patient transfers, discharges, and psychosocial/spiritual support
  • Uphold infection control standards and monitor the sterile field
  • Participate in Universal Protocol and surgical "time out" safety procedures
  • Initiate emergency resuscitative measures per ACLS protocols when necessary

Additional Information

Patient Populations Served: Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult. Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record. Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens may be present. Physical Requirements (typical): Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, keyboard entry, and repetitive hand/arm movements; occasional sitting, squatting, and kneeling; rare running or climbing. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards including blood/body fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred. Licensure/Certifications: Current RN license in state of practice; BCLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred; Handle with Care preferred. Skills: Critical thinking and decisive judgment; ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment; proficiency navigating multiple clinical software systems; effective English communication (read, write, speak, and understand); ability to complete Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
